Vernon Search and Rescue conducts 7 rescues in 9 days

VSAR was tasked with rescuing an injured camper in Monashee Provincial Park Friday night

Vernon Search and Rescue (VSAR) has been keeping busy of late.

The rescue group was tasked with two rescues in 24 hours, bringing their total number of rescues up to seven in a nine-day stretch.

"When it rains it pours," VSAR said in a social media post.

Rescuers were tasked with assisting an injured camper in Monashee Provincial Park Friday, June 21. The team hiked to the camper's location and after assessing and stabilizing them, determined it was best to wait for first light and fly them into Vernon.

"It was another long night for our members on the ground but they made the best of it and got some rest when they could," VSAR said.

The injured camper was the latest in a series of recent VSAR rescues. On Thursday VSAR shared that they had been tasked with three water-related rescues in a week.

The group offered the reminder that rivers are currently flowing fast and are riddled with hidden hazards, and that hypothermia is still possible on hot days due to how cold the water is. VSAR also reminded people that PDFs or life jackets are life savers, and alcohol consumption is dangerous when on the water.

"We would also like to remind everyone that search and rescue in B.C. is always free. Please do not hesitate to call 911 as soon as you think you need assistance. We love what we do and as long as we can respond safely we will come and help. 24/7/365," VSAR said.
