The Salmon Arm RCMP were called out to a grad pit party after the fun turned to fighting.
On Thursday, June 27, police received a call from a teen at a grad party off a forest service road in Skimikin, with the situation having deteriorated.
"The youth reported there were 30 people fighting, he was scared and hiding in a bush, there was a vehicle on fire, and he was bleeding from his nose and eyes and couldn't see," Const. Andrew Hodges said in an email to the Observer.
Officers attended the scene and found about 10 kids still hanging around and several vehicles still on-site, but no evidence of any on fire.
"The youth caller was located and admitted to being in a fight, but also that he threw the first punch and appeared to have lost the fight," Hodges said. "He was not presenting with any obvious injuries, was not bleeding from his nose and eyes, and only had a very small amount of blood on his lip."
He added that the boy appeared alert and articulate while speaking with police and, as there were no other reports from any victims, the responding officers believed the fight to be mutual.
They also received conflicting reports of another teen that had been involved in an altercation, but the individual was no longer on scene. It was later confirmed the youth had gone to a friend's house, but police didn't receive any report from him about having been assaulted.
