The Armstrong library is extending its hours to 10 p.m. July 8 to 10 in response to the heat warning.

Extra precautions are being taken to keep Armstrong residents cool this week.

A cooling centre has been identified at the Armstrong library, which has extended its hours to 10 p.m. from Monday, July 8 to Wednesday, July 10.

"The city has opened its Emergency Operation Centre and is working with the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness and several community partners in response to the extreme heat emergency," the city said Monday.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to take advantage of places to cool off and hydrate within the community.

Visit local places like coffee shops and stores, as well as Armstrong Spallumcheen Museum & Art Gallery (3415 Pleasant Valley Rd.), Armstrong Seniors Activity Centre (2520 Patterson Ave.), Nor-Val Sports Centre (3351 Park Dr.), Spray park and splash pad (open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.).

Community members are also urged to check in with friends, neighbours, and family who might require assistance during heat events.

If you have any health questions or concerns, go directly to an urgent care provider, or call the Provincial Health Line at 8-1-1 for free-of-charge health information and advice.

Be prepared to change your routine. If outdoor tasks are required, consider performing them before 11 a.m. or after 5 p.m.
