Work in the area will continue through the summer

Constriction is continuing at Skaha Lake Road and Kinney Avenue.

As construction work on a major infrastructure project continues on the south end of Penticton, city officials are reminding drivers about another upcoming lane closure.

The $10.5 million Point Intersection project will see crews install underground infrastructure at Kinney Avenue and Skaha Lake Road on Thursday, July 4, with the southbound lane set to close.

Drivers travelling south on Skaha Lake Road are asked to watch for detour signs, as a result.

Northbound traffic will not be impacted, the city said.

As of July 3, city officials say work is underway along South Main Street to connect the lake-to-lake bike lane from Kinney to Galt Avenue.

The 40-metre stretch on Kinney, between a Co-op gas station and Salvation Army, is now also officially closed and crews are working to transform the area into green space for cyclists and pedestrians.

Later this summer, milling and repaving will begin on Main Street, from McDougall to Kinney Avenue.

The Point Intersection group of projects was approved by council in April 2023, with its total cost coming in $3 million over budget.
