Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for communities across the South Okanagan, including Penticton, on Wednesday, June 26.

Showers with a risk of thunderstorms are in the forecast for the early hours of this evening, according to the federal forecaster.

"Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and torrential rain," Environment Canada said in its warning.

Weather stations in Summerland and Osoyoos were also hit with severe thunderstorm warnings.

A 30 per cent chance of showers remains in the forecast for the South Okanagan on Thursday and Friday, with daytime temperatures expected to be between 22 C and 25 C.
