A new owner is taking a shot at redeveloping the Front Street property that once was the site of the Slack Alice’s club.
An attempt to redevelop the property into a mixed-use building was started in 2016 and made it through rezoning before the Chase Valley Group put the property on the market in 2018 instead of completing the project.
At the time, the company stated that it had $10 million in other projects and was unable to go forward with the $15 million, four-storey development.

The property was finally sold in August of 2023, according to BC Assessments, for $1.75 million.
The new owner has submitted a development permit which is currently in the process of being reviewed by city staff before being presented to council, the city’s director of development services Blake Laven confirmed via email.
The current application would be for a five-storey, 48-unit apartment building.
Thanks to the previous rezoning application for the lot by the Chase Valley Group, no further rezoning application would be required for the new development.
City staff are currently working towards presenting the application to council for consideration in either May or June.
The lot has been empty since the fire in 2012, which also destroyed two neighbouring businesses.
